Just in Time is coming to New York! Feb 24th University Settlement / Speyer Hall

For the past three years (2016 -18), Berlin-based dance company deufert&plischke have been collecting personal memories, experiences, opinions, clichés, and anecdotes in "letters to dance" written by people in Berlin, New York, and Tel Aviv. Participants in all three cities were asked to hand write a personal letter, addressed to dance, and sketch or describe a favorite movement.

After each phase of collecting letters and movements in the respective cities, a community ball is organized during which the favorite movements of the inhabitants of each city become the choreographic score for a communal choreography.

Writing letters in Berlin, Tel Aviv, New York

Just in Time is a project conceived as a radical approach to audience involvement. The entire project is built with the audience/citizens, who provide the content (letters), choreographic material (favorite movements), and performance (a community ball).

Together with their team deufert&plischke have collected over 600 handwritten letters and almost as many favorite movements. They were written by kids in schools, seniors in nursing homes, dancers in studios, passersby in libraries, cafes, and even on the field of a former airport.

Now Just in Time is coming back to New York on Saturday February 24th at 5pm to celebrate dance with a wonderful intergenerational community ball at University Settlement. This event is free. Attendees will be invited to dance the favorite movements that the citizens of New York contributed to the project.
