2017-18 YEAR IN REVIEW: KADE PHIPPS PHIPPS STOOD TALL IN NET FOR JOHNSTOWN

KADE'S CORNER

It all came down to a choice for Kade Phipps.

“Kade came to our camp two years ago, and played at Aberdeen at the start of the year. He won against us in the showcase,” Letizia said in a December 2 Tribune-Democrat interview. “(Goaltender) Britt League was called up to Youngstown last week, and we didn’t know how long he was going to be there. “We asked Kade to come in and gave him a long look. We asked him to give us a game tonight, and he responded with a big win.”

The native of Ohio sat during December 1 home game against the New Jersey Titans and that is when he was faced with a crucial decision by his agent.

“It was a little crazy. I was watching the first period (Friday), and I got a text from my adviser saying New Jersey wanted me to go there,” Phipps said after stopping 29 shots against the Titans. “I was kind of freaking out. I spoke with my dad. I spoke with my adviser. Then, I talked to Coach Mike (Letizia) and figured it out. “I figured Johnstown would be the better choice. I felt like I’ve been fitting in pretty good and feeling good in practice.”

PHIPPS BY THE NUMBERS

Phipps put together a strong campaign in 2017-18, finishing with a 10-6-0 record with the Tomahawks, along with a 2.51 goals against average ad a .920 save percentage.
