San Jose State University, San Jose, CA

San Jose State University Food Access Survey

In the Fall of 2014, San Jose State University conducted a food access survey through the whole Spartan Community. 4,433 Spartans participated in the survey. This survey proves that many of our own Spartans are currently facing food insecurity. I would like to share some of the results from the survey that you might find surprising.

49.6% of students had to skip a meal or cut the size of a meal because of not enough money.
21% of students have been hungry but skipped a whole meal for a whole day due to cost.
41% of students have had to choose between food and living expenses (rent, transportation, etc.)
42% of students have had to choose between food and academic expenses (tuition, books, supplies, ect.)
