More than a decade after Paul Newman passed, his legacy continues, and his philanthropic work has had a profound impact on society.

1. Paul Newman was an actor, film director, producer, race car driver, IndyCar owner, entrepreneur, philanthropist, cook, and activist. Despite being famous, he didn’t want any self-recognition. He just wanted to give back and help make the world a better place.

2. Paul Newman said that luck plays a part in our lives, and he was lucky to have the right looks for Hollywood films. He used his celebrity status to do good saying that giving back was just “the right thing to do.”

3. With his friend A.E. Hotchner, Paul Newman mixed up salad dressing to give to neighbors as holiday gifts. They started Newman’s Own in 1982, announcing that 100% of profits would go to charity.

4. Paul Newman established Newman’s Own Foundation in 2005 to assure that his philanthropic mission would continue, giving all profits from Newman’s Own products to charity.

5. Paul Newman was a visionary in starting The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, the first camp for children with serious illnesses so they could kick back and “raise a little hell.” More camps were established, and now SeriousFun Children’s Network includes¬ 30 camps and programs around the world.

7. Paul Newman competed in his first professional race at age 47. Each car that he raced featured his age that year. His car numbers went up to 82.

9. In 2015, the U.S. Postal Service introduced a Paul Newman Forever postage stamp, which sold out quickly after its release.
