Final Ted Tadder Inspired Image

This photo is inspired by Tim Tadder photos. He has a collection of pictures that are of construction men working in certain areas. I thought that this would be a great project to use my dad as a model in. My dad is a contractor and he had all his gear with him so I had him put everything on and sit on a chair in my garage. I wanted to use my garage door as the background because it has some nice leading lines and is plain white. I wanted my dad to have a hard, uninviting expression for some added emotion. Like Tadder's photos, I put my picture in black and white. I think that the black and white setting works well with the picture I took.

Backups For Final

I really liked these two photos as well. These pictures didn't seem as uninviting and hard as y final image. I still put them in black and white so that I can make these three pictures a set.

Power Of A Photo

This is my final image for the Power Of A Photo assignment. I had a very cool idea that I was very excited to shoot, I shot the images and loved how they looked. But as soon as I imported the pictures into lightroom, all of the images were out of focus. So it was back to square one. I had no clue what to take pictures of, and then the perfect opportunity presented itself. My mom decided to go through my brother and I's favorite childhood books with us. We had to decide weather we wanted to keep the book or donate it. My brother had several great expressions when books were held up, some being good, some being not so good. Eventually my mom held up a book, at first he laughed and then his face became more setmentle. That is this picture. I think the emotion he is feeling is hard to detect, but with some back story the image becomes more clear.

I really like the background I used for this specific picture. The wooden door had this undeniable texture that really boosts the background. The texture of my brothers hair also stands out rather nicley.

Light Painting Final Photo

Emotion: Light painting in general, for me at least, always seem a little eerie. So I thought it would be cool to try and incorporate some more spooky items. I took pictures of gargoyles and different kinds of spooky materials in order to enhance the 'creep' factor. I ended up really loving this picture especially because of it's 'creep' factor. I think the elaborate frame and skeleton make the photo even more exciting than I anticipated.

Technical: There was a bunch of behind the scenes work that went into these pictures. I set up my camera on a rather tall tripod. Then I turned my shutter speed up to 30 second to allow enough time to paint the light where i wanted it. i used a small flashlight and masking tape in order to direct the light where I wanted it to go. I shot at night, with all the lights off in order to get the black background.

Artistic: I think that the photo is aesthetically pleasing, especially if you enjoy a more spooky aesthetic!

Light Painting Back-up Photos

These are the other two pictures I liked during my light painting. I still think the pictures get across the 'creep' factor. I especially loved the gargoyle picture for this project. though the sun picture doesn't really go with my first theme, it still seems mysterious and I love it.

Product Shoot Final Photo

Emotion: I really liked this setting up and shooting for this project. It was a super fun experience and I liked getting creative with the different products that I shot. I ended up really loving the way that the two honey jars looked. The picture makes me feel 1) proud of how I shot the image and 2) since the photo looks kind of professional, it also makes me feel professional and some how bussiness like. If that makes any sense.

Artistic: Personally, I think the photo turned out very aesthetically pleasing. The way that the jars have a height difference made the photo has some variety which I really loved. The honey wand that I placed up against the jars went with the theme and also kept the photo less boring then if I were to have just used the jars.

Technical: So for the tech aspects of the photo heres what I did, I went to my moms store and found all different types of products that were perfect for shooting. Then on one of the selves in the story and hung up a black t-shirt with some tape. Then I set up two phone flashlights to be shining on either side of the jars. I also turned the lights up as far as they could be turned up and positioned everything near a window to also get in some natural lighting. But I didn't use the flash on my camera. The lighting tended to be the hardest part since I was using a black background. But I am really happy with my end result.

Product Shoot Back-up Photos

These two are some honorable mentions for the product photo assignment. I loved the look of both of these photos with the black ground as well. The syrup photo felt very similar to the main photo I chose but I ended up liking the other one a bit better. The candle one I also loved, however, some of the shadows I thought were a little too distracting.

Environmental Portrait Final Photo

This is my environmental portrait photograph. It was pretty difficult to take this picture because of the conditions outside. Since it was snowing so hard I couldn't take my camera outside. So I set my camera up on a tripod inside the garage and zoomed quite a bit. I wanted to show the work being put in. Therefore, I didn't see a reason to have a full body shot.

Emotional: the picture makes me feel like I'm there. You can see someone working, snow blowing really. And even though You don't see the full body in the shot you still know what the subject is doing and what the picture is telling a story.

Technical: I like the lighting and how crisp everything turned out. Especially the snowflakes around the black snow pants. And the snow up against the ground and back ground. The lighting isn't too dark or too bright which is exactly what I wanted to acheive.

Artistic: The colors in this make the photo more unique and different. The white snowflakes up against the black pants and the pop of red on the handle of the snow blower. Everything looks uniform and not too messy.

Lifestyle Final Photo

This is the picture I used for my lifestyle photography project. To begin with I had my camera set up to capture a picture of my other dog, however the dog pictured strolled into the shot and I thought that taking her picture would be the perfect way to have an 'in the moment' photograph. With the basic hard wood floors and more neutral lighting, the dog really seems to be the main focus which was exactly what I had hoped for.

Lifestyle Back-Up Photos

I also liked both of these images, however, I just didn't feel as if they were as crisp/clean as the photo I chose to turn in.
