Hi! My name is Alexandra Pehako and I am a 3rd year Communication & Media student at Bournemouth University.
I am currently on a sandwich year placement at NBCUniversal International, working with the TV Format Sales & Production team.
My passion for the entertainment industry and skills gained at BU have prepared me for an exciting year in television; here's my story so far!
NBCUniversal is one of the world's leading media and entertainment companies in the development, production, and marketing of entertainment, news, and information to a global audience.
NBCU Formats is the International Sales division for all Formats created within the production and broadcast divisions of the company. It is a key growth driver in NBC's international expansion plans.
Our slate encompasses Reality, Lifestyle, Entertainment and Scripted formats from NBC, Bravo!, Syfy, E! and production companies: Monkey Kingdom, Chocolate, Lark, Lucky Giant and Carnival.
I've been involved with the format sales and production of the following TV shows:
MY EXPERIENCE SO FAR
An office in the heart of London (the views!), a friendly team and an all-around creative environment are just a few of the things I love about working at NBCUniversal.
My responsibilities include supporting a fast paced team whilst developing my own skills and building industry knowledge in order to pursue a career in television.
Over the past 7 months I've been actively liaising with clients overseas, maintaining our division's website and creating presentations for international pitches - among many other things!
The work here has surely been challenging but the feeling of accomplishment, industry intel and skills gained are definitely invaluable.
...not to mention all of the fantastic perks - such as shorter working hours during the summer, bottomless coffee and frequent staff screenings of our latest films.
Here are a few photos to illustrate my time at NBCU so far!
Over the past 7 months I've pushed myself to reach new heights both professionally and personally. Embarking on this journey has definitely been the right choice and it's amazing to think I still have almost half of my placement year ahead of me!
Skills picked up at Bournemouth University (such as using the Adobe Creative Suite to create innovative presentations - like this one!) have aided me throughout this experience; being a BU student most certainly is a bonus, as our university is widely recognized for it's fantastic media programmes.
My advice to all prospective placement students - go for it! Having a year out working for a dynamic international corporation really prepares you for the life after graduation; not to mention shows you what it's really like to work in the industry of your choice!
Many thanks for taking the time to view this presentation and please don't hesitate to get in touch with me - firstname.lastname@example.org - should you have any questions. I'm always happy to have a chat!
