The 2016 Overland Park Convention Center staff was a seamlessly integrated team of partners. This year, the convention center team, in partnership with our city officials, facility manager, clients, visitors and the hospitality community of Overland Park have:

  • Generated the largest operating surplus in our 14 year history
  • Created customer experiences that continue to receive raving reviews
  • Become an industry leader in Wi-Fi performance and VR technology
  • Reached record breaking revenue for both Audio Visual and Food & Beverage

Signature events

NakaKon

Every year, voice actors, musicians, cosplayers, artists, designers and industry experts come to the convention center to catch performances, join in cosplay competitions, and learn about working in the anime, manga, and music industries. The annual NakaKon convention contributes $1,900,617 locally with 968 rooms nights.

Blish Mize

Founded in 1871, Blish Mize is the leading distributor for home centers, lumber yards, and hardware and paint store retailers. Since the convention center doors opening in 2002, they've held two trade shows each year. The economic impact for the City of Overland Park in 2016 was $2,832,493 with 3,924 room nights.

Burns & McDonnell

Burns & McDonnell, the largest engineering, architecture, construction, environmental and consulting solutions firm, based in Kansas City, hosted two events at the convention center in 2016.

Lineman's Rodeo

The International Lineman’s Rodeo Convention and Trade Show attracts the best linemen from around the world to compete in events based on skill. The event has grown to over 200 teams and 250 apprentices, with an economic impact of $5,856,045 for the city and 4,953 room nights.

Automotive Service Association (ASA)

For four days, thousands of automotive professionals from 37 states, Canada and Australia gather for the VISION Hi-Tech Training & Expo hosted by ASA – Midwest. Add in an additional 120 vendors, and the economic impact reaches $7,212,413 with an estimated 11,955 room nights.

In 2016, the Overland Park Convention Center invested in experiences—but not just any experiences—innovative experiences that touched everywhere from the technology we use to our creativity in the kitchen.

Visualizing the experience

Overland Park Convention Center customers can now experience the fully immersive, visual and sound environment of beautifully decorated event rooms, with VR goggles utilizing the latest Samsung Galaxy 7 phone and Beats headphones. The result? A stunning audio visual experience. This investment is one of the first immersive sales tools in the convention center industry.

Audio Visual had it's biggest year ever at the Overland Park Convention Center with $1,033,599 in revenue. The contributing factors? Our investment in newer and better technology, the level of service provided and the convenience to our clients all contributed to an increase in revenue for the convention center and overall success for our clients and their attendees.
