Harris Bilingual December 2019 Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Happy December!

Each year, our Harris PTO organizes a Giving Tree for our families – please consider taking a tag and purchasing a gift or two for our families.

Once a year, a team of Harris teachers travel to New Mexico to attend a Dual Language Conference called La Cosecha. Last year, we learned new ways to refine our Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) for struggling students as well as new ways to use technology for our students. This November, we attended sessions on Math, Literacy and Social Emotional Learning. I was able to visit a Dual Language elementary school and see their school-wide strategies for language development. Even though Harris does very well academically, we can still learn new strategies from other Dual Language schools that can improve our instructional model.

As we move into December and the new year, I want to thank you for your support. Year two has brought Harris many new challenges with our schedule, our new literacy curriculum and the many transportation issues that we have faced. I am so thankful for all your help and support to ensure that our Harris community is loved. Thank you for getting your children to school before 7:50 AM. Additionally, I realize that the holiday time is upon us and you may be planning your travel schedule – we need your children to be at school every day, so they do not miss important instructional time. With that said, please coordinate your travel schedule after the 20st of December and before January 7th.

Finally, just a reminder that the School of Choice deadline in January 17th, 2020 at noon. This is for incoming Kindergarten students and any students in grades 1-5 who wish to apply for a SOC spot at Harris for the 2020-21 school year! Stay warm everyone!
