The History of Turtles

Turtles have been around for 11 million years as far as we know. There are around 300 species of turtles, seven of which are sea turtles. There is a great range of size for turtles ranging from the common painted turtle (above) to the leatherback sea turtle (below) which can grow to be 1,500 pounds. Turtles are docile creatures who are omnivores, mainly eating a diet of aquatic plants, small fish, and sometimes snails. They also live for decades. Some turtles have been reported to be better at navigating a maze than white rats, and can have a memory of up to 7 and a half months.
