It is wonderful to see all our students arriving back from holiday and excited to embark on another learning journey. We hope everyone had a wonderful break .

This week as part of the Senior School Science inquiry, students will be visiting the Auckland Zoo to help them investigate and learn about animals. Year 5/6 will visit the zoo tomorrow, 30 July and Year 4 students will visit on 31 July.

While there, the students will be taking part in activities with their teachers and also with educators provided by the zoo. These activities will allow the children to ask questions that will help them form their inquiries and it gives them the opportunity to see animals in real life.

We will be leaving school at 9am and we will be back at school between 2.30 - 3.00pm depending on the traffic. Children need to be at school between 8.30-8.45am to ensure that they don’t miss the bus.

Students will need to bring

  • their lunch
  • a drink bottle of water
  • rain jacket, depending on the weather
  • covered footwear so that they can take part in all activities

We are looking forward to a great day at the zoo.

Thank you for your wonderful support at last months Reading Open Morning, it was wonderful to welcome 120 Parents and Caregivers to our classrooms to watch our reading lessons in action.

Action from last terms Reading Open Morning

Maths Open Morning

I am pleased to let you know that we are holding a Maths Open Morning for Parents on Thursday 15th August from 9.15 am until 11am. This is an opportunity for you to see what your children are learning in Mathematics at the different levels throughout school. The morning will start with a small presentation in the school hall followed by class visits. Morning tea will be served in the hall at 10.30am. We look forward to sharing our Maths learning with you on Thursday.

Camp Adair

Towards the end of this term all of our Year 6 students will experience a three day camp as part of our annual Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) programme. EOTC programmes provide students with access to hands-on experiences that are not available inside the classroom.

Enrolments

If your child is turning 5 in the next 12 months (born in 2015) please ensure you enrol them as soon as possible. With the roll steadily growing at Chapel Downs this will enable us to keep a track of how many New Entrants we can expect in the future. Enrolment packs are available at the office. Our term three New Parent Information Morning will be held at 9.15am Thursday 19th September.

Sports News

Last term our senior school students worked on developing their running skills and building fitness. Every second week students participated in cross country practise .

Unfortunately our cross country event was cancelled due to poor weather. The children in the photos accumulated the most points during the cross country training sessions.

School Uniform

It is wonderful to see so many students wearing the correct uniform with real pride. Just a reminder that the students must wear the Chapel Downs fleece tops or zip up jackets. Student must also wear black shoes only.

Intermediate School Enrolment

Just a reminder to all parents of Year 6 students - it is now time to get your enrolment process under way for Intermediate in 2020. Please check each school's website for enrolment details. Each school has a different timeline for when in zone enrolments and out of zone applications are due.
