Exploring Technology By Alex Aravides

Since the beginning of the year we have completed 7 different projects including: the impossible puzzle, measuring, color your kitchen, wind turbines, towers, Engineering, Go for it, and the Billions In Change Video.

Impossible Puzzle

Are first project/assignment of the year was the Impossible Puzzle. My group Christina, Sofia and I took a long time to make a cube. We couldn't figure this out since, we didn't use the colors that were on the pieces. We didn't realize that we could make a cube since, were thinking of the wrong way to shape it. For example, we were putting our puzzle together, upside down. This took us a long time to do but, when we realized what we did wrong we finally accomplished it.

In the measuring unit, we learned how to measure with rulers. Also, this project took about one week to compete. This will helps us in the future since, we could be building different types of materials for buildings. When we were looking at a ruelr we learned how to read it and find out millimeters. This helped us determine the exact length of an object which is very useful.

Color your kitchen

In the color your kitchen unit we built a modern kitchen our kitchen out of sketch up. We used a sketch up model to help us do this. This project took about a week and we all had many different designs. Before this project we had to learn how to use the program sketch up. We learned lots of ways to make objects and use tools in this program. It helped us measure types of pieces of wood and using a ruler. The color your kitchen project helped us by using tools and measurements to complete this project.

Wind Turbines

In the Wind Turbines unit we learned how to record our information using a anemometer. This project took one class period and after we measured the wind speed for each length, we had to fill out a chart that showed our information. We also learned how different lengths from the fan affected how fast the wind turbine's wind speed went. If the wind turbine was close to the fan this would make the wind speed go very high. However, if the wind turbine was very far from the fan the wind speed would go down.

This was Sofia and I's wood tower. We made this over the course of 3 weeks and it was the most challenging one by far. We took lots of time and effort to make our tower really good. This was our most recent project.
Engineering Go for it!

In the Engineering Go For It unit, we looked at a presentation, which showed us different types of inventions that can help our environment be more successful. We saw examples of elevators, bridges and buildings. Also, we learned how these inventions were invented, who invented them, and how they help the environment. Furthermore, we saw how elevators used to work and how they have changed as time passed. We noticed how the better the inventions work, the easier it is to use them.

Billions in change

In the Billions in Change video we learned that around the world their is different technology that changes the way people live. For instance, the Free Electric bike in India. This bike can power a house, a classroom, or can help activities and increase productivity. For example, students can play outside more and have a better health while still going home and doing their home with light. The Free Electric bike is one resource that the Billions in Change video showed. The Billions in Change video taught me that the world with electricity is a better place to be.

Summarizing the Semester

This semester we learned a lot about technology, which will help us in the future. Technology is a big part of our economy and are lifestyle. We use it everywhere ad this will help us communicate with people in different people in different places. Over the semester we have learned a about different types of technology and how it has impacted the world and our community. Technology is a big part of the world and is a fast growing source that can help us have a better earth and be better people.
