Fall in Love with Fresh Apple Recipes cate casparius '19

As the air turns crisp and the summer sun fades away, we let go of the summer berries and eagerly approach apple picking season. It's a great family/friend activity to do during the fall season. Apple cider, donuts and pies make a comeback in the stores, but you're still left with the big bags of fresh apples you just picked. An apple a day keeps the doctor away but don't just crunch into a raw apple; here are a few recipes to try with your in-season apples

"I literally love fall because there's nothing better than going apple picking with your friends then enjoying them after," Deniz Elden '20 said.

"Warm apple cider is the best because when I'm cold in the fall it warms me up and I get the satisfaction of the sweet apple flavors in the cider," Cooper Beitman '18 said.

First: It's easy to pour and enjoy a cup of store bought cider but this fall try spicing it up with this easy and delicious crock-pot cider recipe.

You will need: 1 orange, 2 tsp of whole cloves, 1 apple, 1 tsp of whole allspice, 4 cinnamon sticks, 1 gallon of apple cider, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon and 1 crockpot.

According to Medical News Daily, apples are great to incorporate into your breakfast. They provide important antioxidants, flavonoids and dietary fiber.

Second: Here's a great, refreshing breakfast toast combo you won't want to skip on!

You will need: 1 slice of bread, 2 tbsp ricotta cheese, 1 apple and 1 tsp of honey.

Apple cider donuts sell out of the markets quickly every year because of their irresistible flavors and consistency. “I love cider donuts because they have the cinnamon coating that makes the donut feel moist and crunchy in your mouth all at the same time. The moist donut brings a sort of sweet sensation along with it in every bite,” Will Rosenthal '19 said.

Third: While these donuts may be delicious and are a favorite during this time of year, why not try a different apple recipe that will taste just as good, if not better… Something amazing is hiding in this pancake recipe... apple ring pancakes.

You will need: 5 small flour tortillas, 3/4 cups of sugar, 3 tsp of cinnamon, 3 apples, 4 tbsp of butter, 3 tbsp of brown sugar, 1 tsp of lemon juice, maple syrup and frozen whipped topping.

Everyone's familiar with the typical apple pie that makes an appearance every year around this time. "Apple pie is so delicious. It's my favorite fall dessert. Nothing compares to the mouthwatering cinnamon and sugar combination and the fresh, in season apples," Ava Sholes '20 said.

Sholes isn't the only apple pie lover. According to Pie Fun Facts, 36 million Americans identify apple pie as their favorite kind of pie.

Fourth: Here's an alternative dessert with the same loving, familiar flavors of apple pie: apple pie tacos.

You will need: 5 small flour tortillas, 3/4 cups of sugar, 3 tsp of cinnamon, 3 apples, 4 tbsp of butter, 3 tbsp of brown sugar, 1 tsp of lemon juice, maple syrup and frozen whipped topping.

Now go off and enjoy some homemade, delicious, dishes! Happy fresh apple season!
