FHE's South Side Stride
On August 9th, members of the FHE Staff visited the homes of our incoming Kindergarteners to welcome our newest students and help ease the transition of starting school. Families were then invited to Fountain Hill Park for activities.

Fountain Hill Elementary School experienced a wonderful start to the 2019-2020 school year! Staff were excited to welcome our students back to The Hill for another fantastic year of learning and leading!

Our Open House Block Party was a huge success! It was great to see so many of our students and their families. We truly believe that working in partnership with our families is the best way to ensure student success! Academics, field trips, Zones of Regulation, PAWS, technology and so much more was reviewed at Open House. If you missed the beginning of the school year celebration, please take a moment to view the video link and ensure all paperwork on Registration Gateway has been completed. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher or the main office.

Below is Student Reporters Jaydan and Kyle's interview with Reading Specialist, Mrs. Nagle:
Q: How many years have you been teaching at FHE?
A: 9 years. I started in 5th grade, then went to 1st grade, and now am excited to be part of the Reading Team.
Q: What is your favorite Children's Book?
Do I have to pick just one?! Some of my favorite authors are Eric Carle, Mo Willems, and Eric Litwin. My favorite book to read to my students is "The Day the Crayons Quit" by Drew Daywalt.
Q: What are your hobbies when not teaching?
A: Spending time with my family and puppy named Cooper.
Q: What is your favorite color?
A: All shades of pink. ("Mrs. Nagle even is wearing a pink shirt today!" -Kyle)
Q: What Colleges did you attend?
A: Moravian college in Bethlehem, PA.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Anything with pasta. I love a home-cooked meal.
Q: Who was your hero while growing up?
A: My 4th grade teacher who was so passionate about teaching.
Q: What is your all-time favorite lesson/activity to teach?
A: One of my favorite lessons is an author study. I love to choose an author and read as many books as possible by him or her to my students. I can incorporate lots of reading strategies and skills while learning about the author.
Q: What is one of your favorite memories from when you were in Elementary School yourself?
A: Winning 3rd place at my school science fair.

Back To School Night Block Party
This event was held on September 5th and featured a gathering in our gymnasium before the Party was taken outside to our playground for music, food, activities, and more! And of course, an appearance from Fountain Hill Phil!

We hope you had a blast at our Back to School Block Party! We had 650 visitors for a night of food, friendship and FUN!
Our first McDonald's Night was a success! We had over 200 visitors come in to eat and many more come through the drive thru. Our next McDonald's Night will be Tuesday, March 24th!
