Colour Carnival wonderful memories

As the sun sets on sideshow alley the bright lights draw us in.

The coloured neon stands & rides accompany all kinds of events from the annual agricultural show to rodeos.

These images were taken in Mareeba in 2012 but it might just as well have been the Sydney Royal Easter Show in 1968 or Bondi Beach at New Year 1975, the 'behind the scenes' tech may have changed but the experience hasn't.

The games of chance are as dodgy as the food, yet we love it. It may be our first sorte out at night as kids without parental control, or we can be introducing the grandkids to the delights of fairy floss, the carnival beckons us.

The carnival has long disappeared from the city beaches of my youth and been replaced by the many more attractions available today.

Out in the regional areas it's a different story and the carnival is still a drawcard at many events.

Can't remember the last time I was on a ride but I have the feeling once we settle down later this year at the Gold Coast where my many nieces & nephews either live or visit, 'Uncle Mikey' may be enticed to spoil a young'n or two.

And if I don't think I can survive without embarrassing myself I can always wait at the rides exit with a fairy floss in hand.
