SJU Softball Field The Home of Saint Joseph's Softball

After two decades of playing home games off campus, the Saint Joseph's softball program now has a place to call its own as the SJU Softball Field opened in 2012. The Hawks christened their new facility with a 1-0 win over Rider on March 21, marking the first varsity softball game on campus since 1990.

Tucked into the Maguire Campus, down the hill from Smithson Field and along City Avenue, the SJU Softball Field features a dirt infield and, at the time of its construction, was just the third facility in the Atlantic 10 to boast a turf outfield.

The Hawks opened their new home with a victory as Saint Joseph's topped Rider, 1-0, on March 21, 2012.

From home plate, the left and right field lines are 195 feet, while the park measures 215 feet to straightaway center. Bleacher seating is available for 400 spectators, while the area around the field is conducive to lawn seating. A working press box also provides space for game operations staff and media attendees.

"Our field and facilities are among the top in the Atlantic 10. We used to drive to practice and home games. Now, our student-athletes can walk to the field and the locker room from their classes and dorms. The adjustment has been remarkable." – then-Saint Joseph's softball head coach Terri Adams, upon the opening of the facility

With the opening of their new home, the Hawks also enjoy the addition of a new team locker room, located just steps away from the SJU Softball Field. Batting cages were also installed nearby and are shared by the softball and baseball programs.

In addition to a top-class playing surface, the Hawks enjoy the use of a newly-renovated team locker room.

Prior to the opening of the SJU Softball Field, the Hawks called multiple venues home. The program played its first eight seasons on campus at Finnesey Field – now know as Sweeney Field – before moving to the Belmont Plateau for three years. In 1994, the program moved to East Norriton Field in East Norriton, Pennsylvania, for a 15-year stretch that ended in 2008. The Hawks then spent three seasons sharing facilities with local universities before the SJU Softball Field opened in 2012.
