Dragon Journal June 4, 2021

End of School Year Events - As stated in previous communications, much collaboration has gone into planning the end of year celebrations. Thank you for your patience! Grades K through 4th will conduct their events on Tuesday, June 8th. Please remember this is for in-seat students only and parents are not permitted to attend these events. In-seat families may reference the detailed information below, which was previously sent June 2nd. Please note that TSD and Schroeder have made masks optional at Field Day. This is consistent with our recess plan.

5th Grade T-Shirts Pick-up by June 8th! - T-shirts for 5th grade virtual students are ready for pick-up in the materials pick-up vestibule. The t-shirts are labeled with your child's name, so please make sure you choose the correct one. In-seat students will have their t-shirt sent home with them. All 5th graders are to wear their t-shirts on June 9th.

5th Grade Celebrations - Thank you for your patience as we developed a celebration day plan for our 5th students. We are happy to share that we have maintained our celebrations done in the past, but in a modified format due to COVID-19 district protocols. We are happy to still celebrate with a class ceremony, video, pizza lunch, and Field Day. Please know that parents are able to participate in some events, but are not able to participate in other events. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. We are looking to have a fun day for our students! Please read the attached document for more information. The two page message below was sent on May 28th to all 5th grade families.

Off Campus Celebrations - We have informally heard of parents planning large out of school celebrations for our 5th grade students to serve as an end of the year celebration. It is important to understand that the school and staff cannot take part in this type of event. If you are planning to gather groups of students, it is better to do this after the last day of school. That will prevent students from gathering and returning to the school setting. We thank you for your help in this matter.

2020/2021 Yearbook Information - With the multiple scheduling delays due to the pandemic this year, the receipt and distribution of yearbooks has been delayed. We will be communicating with families as soon as updated information and an estimated time of arrival is known. Thank you for your patience.

Congratulations Mrs. Harnisch! - We are both happy and sad to announce that Schroeder's Reading Specialist, Mrs. Laurie Harnisch, will be retiring at the end of this year. Mrs. Harnisch was hired into the Troy School District to teach a 4th/5th grade split class at Schroeder in 1986. She continued at Schroeder as a 4th grade teacher and later moved into her most current role as a Reading Specialist. A position she has loved for 26 years. The entire Schroeder community has benefitted from having Mrs. Harnisch's caring nature and expertise over all these years. She will be sorely missed. Thank you for all your dedication to our Schroeder students, Mrs. Harnisch!

As a happy farewell, Mrs. Harnisch will be celebrating her career with the students by passing out popsicles to students at lunch. Popsicles will be distributed on Friday, June 11th. Thank you to our PTO for supporting this celebration! (Please know that we will continue with our established social distancing and eating protocols when eating the popsicles.) We are happy to allow her to say goodbye to the students and celebrate her retirement and the last day of in-seat school! If your child has a food allergy regarding the popsicle, please communicate with the office and your child’s teacher.

"I have loved to watch our students become awesome readers. It's rewarding to see how much growth they have made. I've loved my career and will miss working with the Schroeder kids, parents and colleagues. It's on to my next chapter in life." - Ms. Harnisch, Reading Specialist

Next Year School Supplies – New Ordering Option! - Each August we send out suggested school supply lists for each grade. In years past, this would mean a trip to your local school supply store. This year, the PTO and Schroeder Elementary have provided an optional, convenient way to order your school supplies online and have them shipped to your home. We have partnered with 1st Day School Supplies.

Please know this opportunity is completely optional. We wanted to give parents the choice to order a package with your child’s school supplies or do your own shopping. This is completely at your digression! This year, 1st Day School Supplies will help parents and teachers get the exact supplies needed for next school year without the headache of shopping at WalMart, Target or Staples. 1st Day School Supplies is convenient, easy and hassle free. They have competitive prices on high quality brands. You can make your purchase now by clicking the link below. Orders need to be placed by July 1st and will be shipped to your home prior to the start of school date. Click the link below to submit your order.

Student Medication/Epipen Pick-up for In-Seat Students - Does your child currently have medication(s) / epipen in the school office? The last week of school (June 14th, 15th and 16th) are virtual half days for all students. Please make arrangements to pick up your child’s medication from the office prior to this week. We cannot send medication home with your child. All unclaimed medication will be properly disposed of.

A new Authorization for Medication form must be submitted every year. The form can be found on the Troy School District website under the Parent Resource tab or click on the link below. Please feel free to call the Schroeder office to schedule a pick-up time or if you have any questions or concerns.

Are You Moving Over the Summer? - Please remember to inform the Schroeder office if you have are in the process of moving or plan to move over the summer. Having the correct information on file for your child is a crucial component to your child's continued enrollment in the Troy School District. We also need accurate student numbers for our enrollment and staffing. Please email Mrs. Murphy (rmurphy@troy.k12.mi.us) if you have any questions. Thank you!

Schroeder Soccer Stars - Congratulations to Tatum Sheckell and Maci Zeiter on their incredible display of soccer prowess! The girls participated in the Junior State Cup through the Michigan State Youth Soccer Association last May. There were 2-divisions for the U10 (4th grade), U11 (5th grade), and U12 (6th grade) that consisted of the top 16 teams in the state in each division. (Teams qualify through their season league record). Tatum and Maci’s team, the TSC Flames, made it to the quarter-finals to be one of the top 8 teams in the State! Although their team was defeated by Michigan Junior Fire from Grand Rapids, nobody can take away their remarkable accomplishments of the year! We are so proud of these amazing Schroeder Dragons!
