Cat in the Hat Breakout Hickory point school, 2019

First graders at Hickory Point were on a quest to find a special object belonging to the Cat in the Hat. The object was taken by Thing One and Thing Two and locked away in a box. To solve the mystery, the students had to work together to find six sets of clues that would help unlock the box.

The very first clue involved solving math problems, featuring our favorite finned friends, Red Fish and Blue Fish.

After solving the puzzle correctly, the students moved on to other five other clues using tickets as admission.

The clues included alphabetizing Dr. Seuss books and rearranging computer-generated puzzle pieces. One of the more difficult challenges faced by the students was finding hidden letters using a small pen light.

After students found the final clue, they were able to determine the three numbers they needed to open the lock on the box!

Success!
Mission Accomplished! Nice job!

Although these students were in classes taught by Ms. Quick, Ms. Reed, and Ms. Smith, all first graders had the opportunity to participate in the breakout activity.
