FAIRHOPE, Ala. - The Fairhope Single Tax Corporation is pleased to announce the finalization of a three-year project to digitize and catalog its historical documents and make them available online at http://fairhopesingletax.pastperfectonline.com. This rare collection of more than 80,000 documents tell the story of the founding of the Single Tax Colony in 1894 by Populist reformers and the development of the Fairhope community through the years.

Alison Knight, Chair of the Archive Committee, initiated the project in 2013 and was quickly joined by Dr. Savan Wilson, who provided her recommendations for the necessary equipment and software in addition to training the catalogers on the use of the PastPerfect Museum software system. The catalogers consisted of Catherine King who has been a docent at the Fairhope History Museum since 2008, local artist Libby McKibbon McCawley and Alison Knight.

As part of the Fairhope Lecture Series 2017, there will be a presentation “Fairhope Single Tax Archives: Preserving Our Past” given on Thursday, January 5, 2017, 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the Fairhope Public Library Giddens Center. Speakers Alison Knight and Catherine King will talk about the contents of the collection and how to access them online and at the dedicated FSTC Archives Desk at the Fairhope Public Library.
