The office staff would like your help in recognizing our staff. Please take a few moments and use the link below to provide some encouragement to those folks that are making a major difference in your child's future. These comments can be anonymous, or you can provide your name. The office staff will use the provided comments every Thursday for our #thankfulThursday movement. The attached form can be completed, as little or often as you like, throughout the entire school year. We appreciate your support in growing the culture of gratitude that already exists at MIS!!

A couple of comments shared this week:

"I want to thank Mrs. Proper, Mrs. Sincroft, and Mrs. Leiber for taking the time to watch a video that my daughter made over the summer. My daughter is very shy and this was a way that I thought would help them get to know her better. They all three gave me great feedback and said they would try to find ways to help her this year. They all answer my questions quickly whenever I message them. Thank you for a great start to this school year!"

Report card reminders

Report cards went live in the PowerSchool Parent Portal this afternoon. Just a few things that we want to make sure that you are aware:

Related Arts Grades: We wanted to remind you that these classes are on a 12 week rotation (trimester) this year so those classes won't conclude for a couple of weeks. Therefore, the grade for the current class your child is in won't appear on a report card until after the 2nd nine weeks. However, you can always go to Powerschool to see how your child is doing in any of the classes he/she is enrolled in.

Letter Grade vs Effort/Conduct Grade:

The letter grade is a reflection of a student's content knowledge of the skills/standards being worked on in class.

The conduct grade will reflect a child's work ethic and/or attitude over the course of the nine weeks.

Therefore, these two indicators can be used to provide you with information such as:

  • A student could struggle academically but be a hard-working student who contributes positively to the classroom environment.
  • On the flip side, there might be a student who academically gets the material at a high level, but doesn't always make the best decisions in helping create a solid learning environment.

Our hope is to always help students improve in both of these areas over the course of their intermediate school career.

Visitor/student Checkout system

Raptor Systems, the program we use to check students out to parents for appointments as well as check visitors in when this becomes possible again, has been updated. Therefore, the next time you come to check your child out early, please bring your driver's license for us to scan into the system for this school year. Thanks, in advance, for your help with this.

mis book clubs

The "MIS Reading for All" book clubs will be starting back up in November. Two book options will be offered. Currently, these clubs will be offered virtually. If your child is interested, please have them see their ELA teacher or Mrs. Wayne, who is overseeing this program, for a permission slip.

Please remember that these will occur next Monday, Tuesday & Thursday at your assigned time. You should be in receipt of your Google Link for these meetings. If not, please reach out to your child's homeroom teacher.

annual mckinney vento survey

Greenfield-Central is required under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act 42 U.S.C. 114735 to regularly gather information that can help determine students who may need assistance. All G-C families are requested to complete the short survey found at the link below regardless of residency status. The information provided in this survey will only be used to determine students who may need assistance based on their current housing status. See information at the end of the survey for a description of the rights of homeless students.

Click HERE to access the Greenfield-Central Mckinney-Vento survey.

We appreciate your time in completing the survey. Please contact Mr. Jim Bever, Greenfield-Central's McKinney-Vento Liaison, with any questions or concerns. He may be reached at jbever@gcsc.k12.in.us.

Christmas Assistance

Christmas Assistance applications will be available at the front desk of Maxwell Intermediate School or from Mr. Stroud from October 26 - November 13.

Families, churches, or organizations who wish to sponsor a family in need should also contact Mr. Stroud by email at sstroud@gcsc.k12.in.us.

Our school will be participating in the SchoolStore program again this year. This online program helps our school earn cash without students selling door-to-door, collecting money or delivering products. Over 400 merchants, including Kohl's, Old Navy and WalMart.com, have joined together to offer up to 50% of sales to our school for shopping through SchoolStore.com.

You shop online for what you are planning to purchase anyway and support our school. Simply go to www.schoolstore.com, select our school (School code: 8981) and let the shopping begin!! Feel free to share with family members and friends.
