Forgotten South 1st By: Helena Hild

Walking down South 1st and seeing tagged buildings that were once businesses sitting abandoned is not uncommon. The build up of the "So-Fi" neighborhood has led to the failure of smaller businesses that cannot afford to operate because of gentrification in this area.
Warehouse Liquors sits just on the corner of South 1st and Oltorf. This location is in the somewhat forgotten area of South 1st, only a mile or so from the gentrified neighborhood and shopping area of "So-Fi".

This mural is on the side of a seemingly closed for good Auto Collision repair center which also just so happens to be right next door to a completely new Starbucks.
This mural on the side of a Starbucks on S. 1st seems to be trying to fit in with the look of "So-Fi" with its ample graffiti and mural art.
A pawn shop that appears to have been closed decades ago sits empty on the corner of South 1st and Oltorf.
