The Era Of Good Feelings:
The new American country expressed itself through music. Before the 1800s, music would mostly be heard in church. After a while, orchestras started playing music from europe. In the south, slaves combined the hymns of white churchgoers with African musical styles to create spirituals. In the south west, square dances dances became common. These were less formal versions of the popular cotillion. As fiddles played, a ¨caller¨”told the dancer which moves to perform.
