Carnival Parent Permission Electronic Link

In order for MS students to stay after school to attend the HS Carnival on Wednesday, October 3, we must have parent consent on the electronic link no later than noon on 10/3/18. Please note: students staying after school for Carnival MUST either ride one of the 3 activity buses (4:20 PM, 5:20 PM, or 6:20 PM) or get a ride home with a parent/guardian. Students may not walk off campus without being accompanied by a parent or guardian.

I & E Volunteers

Intervention and Enrichment period is up and running successfully. We have between 43-48 different athletic, social, artistic, service, and academic offerings every day from 2:27 PM - 3:07 PM. If you have a talent or interest you'd be willing to share with our MS students on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, please reach out to afloro@cvsd.net for more information. A big thank you to 6th grade parent, Danielle Kane, for offering knitting to our MS students on Day 2s in October!

International Peace Day & Start with Hello Data

CVMS students writing "May Peace Prevail on Earth" in their native language.
Our CVMS Peace Pole under construction. A big thank you to the students of Mrs. Chan and Mr. Masek for building, painting, and writing "May Peace Prevail on Earth" in the 4 most prominent languages at CVMS: English, Arabic, Turkish, & Hindi. The peace pole is a wonderful reminder that our diversity makes us GREAT.
6 Purple House students dressed in green on Thursday during Start with Hello in honor of the Sandy Hook Promise committee's pledge to end social isolation.
During "Start with Hello" week, I used a counter app to see how many students responded to my morning Door 3 greeting with a "Hello" , smile, or other similar greeting in reply. As you can see from the data, we improved the response rate from 22% on Monday to over 80% on Friday! Way to go, CVMS. Smiles and greetings make CVMS a better, more welcoming and kind place for everyone!

Lunch / Reset Update

Effective Tuesday, October 2, 2018 we will return to students having lunch and reset with their house-mates. Since switching to student choice A/B lunch on September 4, we've since an increase in incivility, disrespectful and aggressive behavior. Additionally, in a PBS student survey conducted last week, students reported that our Triple Crown: respect, responsibility, and integrity were areas for needed focus during Reset. For the overall safety and well-being of our students, we will remain with house lunch and reset for the foreseeable future.

Student-Led Conferencing November 5 & 6

This will be our 2nd year of shifting toward student-led conferencing during fall conference days. The traditional model of parents and teachers talking about students without the student as an active participant is no more. Our MS students deserve a prominent seat at the head of the conference table to own and share their data, their strengths, their areas of continued focus, and to establish and publically communicate their learning goals for the school year. More information will be coming soon about the structure of the student-led conference including the revised roles of the parents, teachers, and students and the scheduling process. Stay tuned!
