THE MESSAGE 1.12.18

Check out the exciting things happening around the district!

Celebrating School Board Leaders

Southfield Public Schools is uniting with other Michigan school districts to thank the board of education for their excellence and dedication to public education.

Public school board members devote themselves to their district needs, spending several personal hours attending meetings, school functions and preparing for the decisions they make.

This month we encourage community members, parents and student to thank the district's school board for their hard work and public service. These individuals have positively impacted our community and affect the way our community's children learn and grow.

Teacher Awarded Grant to Help Students

University High School Academy English Teacher and Test Coordinator Torrie Maas won a $750 cash grant from Michigan Schools & Government Union.

The grant will help students who do not have computers or books at home. Maas is optimistic that this purchase will foster learning by allowing students use of computers and novels in her classroom. "It is my hope that with this grant I can show my students that there are no limits to what they can learn and do," shared Maas.

Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union selects 40 teachers each year to award a classroom cash grant. The teachers are chosen by their community and win based on the number of votes each person receives. To receive the fund, teachers must submit a brief proposal explaining how they will allocate the money for their classroom.
