Hub Bulletin March 2020

Welcome

Welcome to our March edition of the York Music Hub Bulletin.

We hope that this bulletin finds you well. During these uncertain times, we are keen to highlight that we are working in line with advice from both the Arts Council and the Government. As you will be well aware, all events and gatherings are cancelled for the moment, so we are looking at new ways of making music together. If you have any virtual performances or events happening , please do let us know at news@yorkmusichub.org.uk and we will do our best to spread the word.

We are also working on pulling together our own Virtual Music Hub, (more details below) please look out for further information and updates on our social media pages. We have also started a York Music Hub Blog, please click here to read our latest post.

Announcements...

HubFest 2020

It is with incredible sadness that we have had to announce the postponement of HubFest 2020. We are deeply sorry but hope you understand our decision. On a happier note we will be looking to set up some virtual performances and we have busy working with the amazing designers at Squeegee Design on our online sharing area http://share.yorkmusichub.org.uk which will be launching on 1st April! Please do send us your performances, rehearsal footage, compositions or anything else musical and we'll endeavour to feature as much of our music making as we can. After Easter the site will also feature live music tutorials for schools and home learning.

National Youth Band Championships

The Shepherd Group Youth Band were due to compete in the National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britain on the 28th March. This would have been the bands first appearance at the prestigious contest, where they were to perform the set work Saint-Saens Variations  by Philip Sparke. Here they are performing the piece three weeks ahead of the competition in a sell out concert at The Hive, Manor School.

Music has an extraordinary power to bring us together, it can lift us when we feel low, energise us when we feel tired, and is something we all have in common.

So, to help with the rhythms and routines of your new daily life, Out of the Ark are releasing seven songs, one for each day, all with challenges and activities related to each song. Every week for the next few weeks they will continue to add songs and resources. Click here for full details.
