Superintendent Welcome Ceremony

My wife, son, and I are sincerely appreciative of the support shown to us last week at the Welcome Ceremony. It meant a great deal to me and my family to see so many board members and stakeholders come out as early as 7:30 a.m. to show support to this administration. I look forward to a strong partnership with this Board, as we make JMCSS the greatest system in the state of Tennessee. Let’s WIN!

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with us on July 1!

Combined School Board Meeting

The Executive Committee believes it would be a good idea to blend our meetings by having some in-person and some virtually. Our idea is supported by the fact that some governing bodies have continued to meet in-person. As a result, we have worked in concert with the city government to host our in-person Combined School Board meeting at City Hall on Thursday, July 9 at 5:30 p.m. We will abide by state, city, and county orders by wearing face masks and adhering to the social distancing guidelines. Governor’s Executive Order No. 50 & Safe Workplace

Last week, Governor Lee issued Executive Order No. 50 to extend the State of Emergency associated with the COVID-19 pandemic to August 29, 2020. We will abide by state, city, and county orders by wearing face masks and adhering to the social distancing guidelines. Also, the Tennessee Department of Education has made it clear that the Executive Order does not apply to schools and districts. This past week the JMCRHD took additional measures to slow the spread of COVD-19. Our central office staff will be working with our coordinator of school health to ensure that we are in compliance with these measures by encouraging the guidelines set forth by the state and local government. As you visit our office, please be mindful that our protocols are only to provide a safe and healthy environment. Lastly, athletics will remain in phase 1 of reopening. District Athletic Director Tim Gilmer stated that every school’s athletic director was tasked with forming a plan that would comply with district procedures for phase 1. School New Normal Initiative Update

This week, the School New Normal Initiative (SNNI) work team will convene to begin the planning of getting schools off to a great start in the Fall. If you look around, you will see where some districts are retracting their plans to make modifications after they have made initial announcements around school reopening. One of the reasons that I wanted to implement our approach is to ensure that we had a solid plan and that we did not send out multiple mixed messages. I really appreciate everyone who took the time to provide us with feedback as we plan phase 1 of our initiative. Again, I want to thank the team members for their willingness to participate and assist us in providing the best options and opportunities for our students in the Fall. Please continue to observe the Roadmap to our School New Normal Initiative as it will contain the latest information around our plans. Together, we will win.
