2019 Coker College men's GOLF Season Preview

The Coker College men's golf team was ranked as high as No. 17 in the NCAA Division II National Rankings last season, while junior Wanjoo Lee was rated the 51st best Division II golfer in the country. Lee was also named a Second Team All-South Atlantic Conference selection for his efforts last season.

Following the regular season the Cobras finished fifth at the South Atlantic Conference Golf Championship and Lee qualified for the Division II Men's Golf Southeast Regional for individual play, reaching the final round.

Lee, Daniel Graves, Zachary Herold, and Nicolas Parra were also named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars according to the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

The Cobras enter the 2018-19 season with a solid core of players, including nine returners and two new additions.

Ethan Cairns returns for the Navy and Blue after posting solid sophomore and junior seasons, recording a 74.4 season scoring average his second year, and 73.83 his third year. Cairns was named to the South Atlantic Conference All-Tournament team last season and captured the Broward Amateur Championship last July.

In addition to the talented returners, Coach Goins has added Haydon Norwood and Coleman Bess. Norwood is a sophomore transfer from Presbyterian College where he played in five tournaments and in high school he was a three-time all region selection, region golfer of the year, and lowerstate champion. Bess is a freshman from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and is a two-time all region and lower state champion.

Lee has been a key piece for the Navy and Gold since his first season. As a freshman, he finished with a scoring average of 76.4 in eight events and was named to the all-tournament team during the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Golf Championship. The following year he continued his dominant performance winning the 2017 South Atlantic Conference Golf Championship individual title. Last season, Lee finished first at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate, was ranked 51st in the Division II National Rankings, and was selected to the All-South Atlantic Conference Second Team.

Cairns has performed proficiently during his time as a Cobra. He posted a season scoring average of 77.5 as a freshman and last season he finished tied for eighth at the South Atlantic Conference Golf Championship, while being named to the South Atlantic Conference All-Tournament team. Additionally, the Floridian had a spectacular showing at the 2018 Broward Amateur Championship, bringing home first place out of 39 competitors.
