The Divine: A Play for Sarah Bernhardt Viktor Toth

Social Experience

I attended this play with my friend Ludo Boscaino, as seen in the picture below. Before attending this play, we ate dinner at athlete training table and then scooted over to the theater. Attending this play with Ludo was a fun experience because we met new people and the play was really intriguing, so we talked about it for an hour after it was over. This is a good example of shared experiences in the good life because I went to go see a really brilliant play with a friend that was also interested in seeing it.

Spatial Experience

Before attending this play I was pretty excited and curious to what the play will be about and good the actors will be. When entering the theater and seeing a large crowd I had a positive feeling that the play will be good if the attendance is so high. Entering the room where the stage was I was stunned on how nice the set was and detailed the set was. After finding my seat and the lights dimmed I began to become excited and started to really be involved in the play. My seat sent the experience to new heights because the actors were walking right by me and acting right in front of me. The role of place in the Good Life can give you a different experience on some things such as this place where my seat might have been better than someone sitting all the way in the back.

Cultural and Intellectual Experience

There were many different problems throughout the play. In the first act we learned how one of the most famous actresses at the time, Sarah Bernhardt was booked to perform in Quebec City, but her performance is banned by the Catholic Church. Then we learn about Talbot, who is the main character, and how he was molested by a priest at a young age and how that becomes a big problem at the end. Before going to see the play i knew nothing about this time era and how it was but after seeing the play it changed my perspective on the working class and differences in wealth back then.

Emotional Experience

The Divine: A Play for Sarah Bernhardt provides us an opportunity for katharsis by having justice in the end of the play. The truth was told to the police about priest molesting the younger children and then also the conflict between the catholic church and the theater was resolved and the play continued and was sold out.
