MARINWOOD AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM May 1st-May 5th

(Look up-We spelled STAR WARS!)

STAR WARS WEEK

We traveled to a galaxy far far away this week. We were inspired by some awesome Star Wars creatures and transformed into lightsaber masters!

BB-8 Craft

BB-8 is a droid (or robot) character from the Star Wars franchise. It first appeared in the 2015 film Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Beep Beep! We loved creating our own mini BB-8 droid. We followed a template and cut out all of it's designs to make it look like the real BB-8.

Watch me draw-Stormtrooper

A Stormtrooper is a fictional soldier from the movie franchise who fights for the dark side.

For our art project on Tuesday, we got a glimps of the dark side while showing our artistic skills. Each student followed along as I drew step by step the different parts of the Stormtrooper helmet. Afterwards, the students could color them in with sharpies to bring some color and light to the dark side.

"Chewie" chocolate chip cookies

Chewbacca (nicknamed Chewie) is a fictional character from the movie franchise. He comes from the Wookie family! He is a loyal friend to Han Solo and is his co-pilot for the spaceship, the Millennium Falcon.

Inspired by the beloved Star Wars character Chewie, we made "chewie" chocolate chip cookies. We mixed the ingredients and rolled the cookie dough balls on the cookie sheets to bake. We had fun cracking eggs and mixing all the ingredients together. After they baked, they were so warm and chewy, we couldn't wait to eat them!

JAbba THE HUTt OOBLECK

Jabba the Hutt is another fictional character from the Star Wars movies that first appeared in Return of the Jedi. He is a large, slug-like alien!

We couldn't have Star Wars week without referencing some of the crazy creatures and aliens from the movies-and we thought Jabba the Hutt would be perfect! Because Jabba is so slug-like, we made Jabba the Hutt oobleck to play with, inspired by him! It was fun to feel the different textures of the oobleck and put our hands (and sometimes part of our arm) in the green slime!

LightSabers

A lightsabor is a laser sword that is used by people who can control and use the Force, or an energy field.

We created our own lightsabers out of pool noodles and some tape! It was easy to recreate our own but also put our own stamp on the design by using different tape and markers. After we were done, we had duals and played lightsaber tag on the field outside. We had so much fun practicing our lightsaber skills. (Make sure to check out the awesome group Jedi pictures at the end of this email)

Pool!

We swam on one of the hottest days yet! It was so hot, we couldn't wait to get into the pool. Almost all of our after schoolers went in and we hope that trend continues as our last few weeks come to and end. We love to swim!

Indoor games/Activities

Check out all the fun we had during indoor free time this week!
