May is Employee Health and Fitness Month!

Upcoming event: The Benefits and Wellness Fair is on Tuesday, May 9th from 10am until 2pm in the Commonwealth Ballroom.

Life is often very busy and takes lots of twists and turns. Often times, it is hard to stay on track. However, making the extra time to take care of yourself and your overall health makes a great difference. Read on to find out why.

There are eight dimensions to Wellness

Below are resources to help you design your individualized Wellness Plan.

Exercise improves your mood!

Physical Benefits of Wellness:

  • Reduces risk of colon and breast cancers in those who are physically active.
  • Strengthens bones and muscles and lowers chances of fracturing/breaking bones.
  • Reduce the risk of Type 2 Diabetes by exercising 120-150 minutes a week.
  • Increase lifespan by 40% in those who are active at least 7 hours each week.

Emotional & Mental Benefits of Wellness:

  • Keeps judgement and thinking sharp as you age.
  • Reduces risk and symptoms of depression.
  • Catch some ZZZ's - helps with sleep function.
  • Just 30-60 minutes of physical activity 3-5 days per week can help!

Wellness Tips & Ideas:

  • Make time for you!
  • Start a garden or plant some flowers.
  • Stay up-to-date on what's happening around the globe.
  • Declutter your workspace.
  • Get involved in a club or organization.
  • Get at least 8 hours of sleep each night.
  • Practice yoga/meditation.
