What's Arts & Academics?

From October to March, students in each class work on different long-term projects. First, they need to come up with good ideas, and then they need to make some good plans. They research, hypothesize, experiment, record, write, rewrite, practice oral presentations, and create and constantly improve visual displays.

Over two days in March, everything comes to its peak. Students haul in their projects. Teachers help them set up their displays in the gym. Judges arrive. Students have rehearsed their oral presentations for hours, but now it's for real. Some judges evaluate just the science projects, some evaluate just the art history projects. Creative writing papers are read and judged. There's one row of projects on U.S states. The eighth graders have tackled issues that don't have easy solutions.
