WHAT IS BLENDED LEARNING?
Blended learning is a combination of classroom and digital instruction. Students in Blended courses regularly attend class during the week and on other days work independently or collaborate with groups on specific activities or connect with the teacher. Blended courses also help students build the skills needed for online learning with the support of a face-to-face classroom.
WHAT COURSES ARE OFFERED AS BLENDED?
There are 7 courses that will be an option in a blended format for the 2018-19 school year: Chemistry, Government, Consumer Economics, AP Statistics, 20th Century Literature, Internship, and Blended Physical Education.
WHY TAKE A BLENDED COURSE?
Blended courses offer a number of advantages. Students learn independent work skills while having the support of a structured classroom. Blended learning also helps prepare students for college where most courses do not meet daily and there is short- and long-term work that needs to be completed in between classes. This is also true for modern workplaces. In addition, students get to interact with materials and activities online with the frequent support of a teacher.
WHO SHOULD TAKE A BLENDED COURSE?
Students who are successful in Blended courses are good managers of their time. Since there is independent work that is to be completed outside of classroom time, students need to be able to hold themselves accountable. Students need to also be able to use their Chromebook to manage materials and assignments and feel comfortable working in an online environment.
