Visit CITL Spaces TechHub - Innovation Studio - VR Lab

CITL's Innovation Spaces were designed to foster discovery, innovation, and problem solving to provide new opportunities for learning across disciplines. Whether you're a faculty member looking to engage your students, a student group interested in building community, or an individual exploring new technologies - the Innovation Spaces are open to all.

The TechHub is an immersive and engaging environment housing a variety of technology exhibits that allow visitors to explore, learn, and share how innovative technologies can be used to transform formal and informal education.

Whether you drop in during open hours, visit with your class, schedule a hands-on tour with your group, need help with an idea you have, or are coming by for extra credit - we would love to have you visit.

Available technologies include 3D printing, 3D design, digital inking, VR/AR/MR/XR, robotics, laser cutting, gaming (we are the headquarters for Illinois Esports), and more.

The Innovation Studio hosts university courses, tours, RSOs, events, research, and much more. Schedule a visit to see how this room can help your students bond, and see how new technologies are being used in your field.

Host your next class or group in the Innovation Studio and experience a high-tech experiential learning classroom with powerful gaming computers, virtual reality headsets, and a multitouch video wall.

Available technologies include a multitouch video wall with wireless presentation capabilities, 55-inch interactive touch table, wireless Oculus Quest VR Headsets, ceiling mounted PTZ cameras, screen capture, web conference and video recording capabilities and iBuyPower gaming computers with HyperX peripherals.

The Virtual Reality Lab serves as a research and testing grounds for faculty and students interested in exploring the educational potential of existing VR experiences, or in developing and testing their own VR content.

The VR Lab is a popular destination for those interested in exploring an immersive virtual reality experience. The lab is a great resource for creating videos with the green screen or conducting research.

Available technologies include a full room wireless VR experience (16'x 16') with a HTC Vive Pro head mounted display, multiple PC-powered Oculus Rift S stations and a variety of standalone headsets including the Oculus GO, Lenovo Mirage, and the brand new Oculus Quest.

COVID - 19 Safety Protocols FAQ

  • CAN I STILL VISIT ONE OF THE SPACES: Yes! Our spaces are open, but all guests and staff must follow the new protocols to ensure safe visits for everyone. Read on to learn more.
  • HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN VISIT AT A TIME: Each space has different restrictions. Maximum capacities are TechHub - 4, Innovation Studio - 6 and VR Lab - 2
  • HOW LONG WILL MY VISIT BE: Visits are scheduled in 1 hour increments with 30 minutes in between for cleaning and sanitizing. If you need more time please book an additional time slot or reach out to our staff.
  • HOW DO I SCHEDULE A VISIT: Please email Jamie Nelson at jamien@illinois.edu to schedule a visit.
  • WHEN CAN I SCHEDULE MY VISIT: CITL Innovation Spaces is accepting appointments for visits on or after August 24, 2020. Typically, appointments are available Monday to Friday with the first visit starting at 10am and last starting at 3pm.
  • CAN I DROP-IN FOR A VISIT: Sorry no, at this time all visits must be appointment only.
  • HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY VISIT: Please bring a face mask to wear during your visit, make sure you have a recent negative COVID test and use the hand sanitizer upon entering. If you have any specific needs, questions or interest please let us know so we can help make the most of your time in our spaces!
  • WHAT IF I AM NOT AFFILIATED WITH THE UNIVERSITY: All guests need to be tested prior to visiting campus. Please refer to the SHIELD website for updates.
  • WHAT ARE CITL STAFF DOING TO KEEP ME SAFE: All CITL staff are required to wear face masks and routinely wash or sanitize hands. Prior to and after each visit or use, the spaces and technologies will be cleaned and sanitized.
