CSCSHC Community Newsletter MARCH 8, 2019

Welcome to the CSCSHC Community Newsletter. This bimonthly publication is intended to keep you up-to-date with all that is happening in and around the school district. We want to share all the great things our staff and students are doing in our classrooms and community. We look forward to sharing our stories of student success, achievement, participation in arts and athletics, and a commitment to philanthropy. We are "New Pal Proud" of our students for achieving their personal best in pursuit of excellence!

Message from the Superintendent

The final countdown to Spring Break is on! This will be our last Community Newsletter before the break. I hope everyone has a safe, restful, relaxing, and enjoyable two weeks away. Hopefully when we return to class on April 1, we'll actually have some spring weather to enjoy.

As we head into the weekend, I would like to recognize our Fine Arts programs on their recent successes. Our NPHS Jazz Ensembles received Gold Ratings and 5 solo awards at the Indiana State School of Music Jazz Contest last week. Good luck to NPHS Winter Percussion, who will compete at State Prelims next weekend, and to NPHS Varsity Winter Guard in the Semi-State competition tomorrow at Decatur Central.

I encourage everyone to come see our show choirs in action tonight for their Cabaret show at 7 p.m. in the NPHS Auditorium. They are having great seasons! Both show choirs compete tomorrow in the final qualifying competition before the ISSMA State Finals. Good luck Diamond Sensations and Crimson Heat!

Good luck also to our NPHS boys basketball team competing in the regionals against Avon at Southport HS tomorrow morning. Go Dragons!

Did You Know?

IREAD-3 testing begins for third-grade students next week. Please make sure your third-grade students get a good breakfast and a great night of sleep before coming to school for testing next week.

The ILEARN testing window for grades 3-8 opens after spring break. This will be the first year Indiana students will take ILEARN, which is a computer-adaptive test that will provide each student with different questions based on how previous questions have been answered. Throughout the course of the test, the difficulty is adjusted based on the individual student's mastery of a particular subject. The Indiana Dept. of Education has created a site with helpful information for parents, including sample tests that parents can take to learn more about how ILEARN is administered. Please also see these two new videos from the Indiana Department of Education about ILEARN:

Robotics State Championships

Good luck to all six of our Robotics teams competing in the Vex Robotics Indiana State Championships at Lucas Oil Stadium this weekend! Two respective teams from NPHS, NPJH, and NPI will be competing. Go Dragons!

Kindergarten Roundup Scheduled for April 4

If you have a child that will be 5-years-old on or before August 1st, your child is eligible for Kindergarten in 2019-2020. Our Kindergarten Roundup will be held on Thursday, April 4 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at each of our three elementary schools.

Please bring your child's birth certificate and immunization records with you when you come to Roundup. Feel free to also bring your future Kindergartener with you to see our Kindergarten classrooms and meet our Kindergarten teachers. Visit this link for more information and this map to learn which elementary school you should visit for Roundup.

Parent Information About Flu Season

The CDC says Indiana is currently at its peak for this flu season.

Here are some helpful tips from our Corporation Nurse about safeguards, symptoms, and treatment of flu.

Summer Enrichment Registration is OPEN

Hopefully we'll have weather a bit more conducive to summer when we return from Spring Break. With that said, it's never too early to be thinking about summer camps. Our twelve Summer Enrichment Camps are OPEN for registration.

New this year, CSCSHC is happy to announce a partnership with the YMCA for child care throughout the summer, including for our Summer Enrichment camps. If you use the YMCA before/after care during the school year, you can now continue that throughout the summer. If you're interested in registering for the summer, or just for one week during Summer Enrichment, visit this link.

Incoming 7th-Grade Parent Night

Our junior high staff would like to welcome all current sixth-grade parents to NPJH on Wednesday, May 8th at 7 p.m. for our 7th-grade orientation.

We understand many things can change for students once they move into our junior high building. We would like to help our parents prepare for those changes with information about how they can help their students be successful at the next level of their academic careers. Join us for presentations about our administrators, curriculum, and extra-curricular activities on May 8th at 7 p.m.
