SDG Project Goal # 1: No Poverty

Our Project: We will run a food drive for the Parkland C.A.R.E.S. Food Pantry.

About Our Classroom

2nd Grade

Fogelsville Elementary School

Breinigsville, Pennsylvania

September 9 - September 31 2019

Getting Started:

We began by learning about the Sustainable Development Goals with some You Tube videos. Next, we read stories about poverty and hunger such as: "My Mother's Chair", "Uncle Willy's Soup Kitchen", and "My Dad Lost His Job". We also watched videos from Soulpancake and about childhood hunger. A board member from the Parkland C.A.R.E.S. Food Pantry came to speak with our students about childhood hunger, the pantry, and our food drive.

The Parkland C.A.R.E.S. food pantry came to speak with my class about the food pantry and kick start our project.

Students made posters to hang up around the school with the details of the food drive.

At our school wide assembly on unity, we learned about understanding and empathy. The students and I announced the schoolwide food drive. The students held up items that could be donated and posters. The students were very excited about the drive.

The food drive took place over one week's time. It was a great success! When it was finished, a total of 519 items had been collected.
