Park Ridge Soccer Club May 2019 Newsletter

Hello PRSC Families.

This is Park Ridge Soccer Club’s 50th year in the community. Since 1969, PRSC has encouraged kids of all ages and abilities to love soccer and to develop their playing skills.

Park Ridge Soccer Club mid-1970s

This season nearly 1100 kids ages 5-18 are playing in the House program and over 400 kids are playing in the Travel program.

Snow? Really?

Mother Nature did not cooperate for the start of the 2019 spring season. Snow, heavy rain and wet fields caused the cancellation of countless Travel and House games and practices the first few weeks of the season.

On April 27, the 2004/2005 Premier Elite Girls, the 2004/2005 Premier Boys Elite, the 2007 Boys Orange and 2008 Girls Orange teams Travel teams played at the Eclipse Spring Classic tournament in less than ideal conditions. Unfortunately, each team played one game before the cancellation of the rest of the tournament games. The 2004/05 Elite Girls, pictured below, battled to a 1-1 draw.

Travel Program Winter Training and Tournaments

The Travel Program moved indoors for winter team training and intrasquad contests at LoVerde Center in Niles. Winter training emphasizes providing players with as many touches as possible during each training session.

Some of the Travel teams participated in a one day, 7 v 7 indoor tournament on Martin Luther King Day or over President’s Day weekend.

Congratulations to the 2006 Premier Elite Girls, 2009 Girls Orange, and 2010 Boys Orange teams that each placed second in the Patriot Games tournament.

TOPSoccer Winter Classic

In March, players took part in the inaugural TOPSoccer Winter Classic. TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) is a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with disabilities, organized by youth soccer association coaches and volunteers. This program is designed to bring the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any child age 5 and up who has an intellectual disability or physical impairments. Twenty players from the Park Ridge, Green & White and Chicago TOPSoccer programs participated in a great event for everyone involved. Coach Moni, Coach Shawn, and a team of youth volunteer buddies led the fun.

Training With the Loyola University Women’s Soccer Team

A great turnout by the Travel girls for an early April training session led by Loyola University Women’s Soccer head coach Barry Bimbi and his players. The girls had a blast running drills and playing games with the Loyola squad.
