As it turns out, one the sources used by Adrian Miller, the author of Soul Food, to write his book is right here on the campus of the University of Alabama. One of the largest collections of African-American cookbooks in the US is housed in The University of Alabama W. S. Hoole Special Collections Library. The David Walker Lupton Collection of African American Cookbooks contains over 500 cookbooks from 1827 through 2011, and is used regularly by scholars and writers such as Adrian Miller. To learn more about the collection, visit their website or watch the video below.
