Michigan opened the tournament against No. 14 seed Montana in the West Regional First Round in Wichita, Kansas.

Michigan Eases into NCAA Second Round with Win Over Montana

The No. 3-seeded University of Michigan basketball team spotted No. 14 seed Montana 10 points to start the game before controlling play and easing its way to a 61-47 victory in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday night (March 15) at Intrust Bank Arena.

Prepared, Ready and Confident: Simmons Key in NCAA Win

Jaaron Simmons came to the Wolverines this season as a graduate transfer from Ohio University. He was named All-Mid-American Conference first team and set Bobcat records for the most assists in one game (17) and one season (275) -- the latter also being a MAC record -- while also scoring 1,034 points.

The Wolverines advanced to the second round following a 61-47 victory over Montana to face No. 6 seed Houston in the NCAA Tournament's West Regional second round game in Wichita.

Trailing by two points with 3.6 seconds left, the Wolverines drew up an improbable play for an improbable moment, and freshman Jordan Poole delivered.
