Faculty Focus

Dr. Alessandra Sarcona

One message that Dr. Sandy Sarcona would like to convey to her students is "To be open-minded about learning."

Continuing to Grow

This Spring 2018, West Chester University is offering:

221 Online Courses (4674 seats)

59 Blended Courses (2095 seats)

6 ITV Courses (38 seats)

That's a total of 286 courses and 6807 seats!

Quality Matters Initiative

Quality Matters (QM) is an organization that offers nationally recognized benchmarks for online course and program design. It offers a set of online course design standards and program review criteria through a rigorous review process. The Quality Matters Initiative is a university-wide effort funded by IS&T Distance Education Services that aims to promote online course quality and teaching effectiveness.

The initiative is split into two stages. The first stage is to recruit faculty to become Quality Matters certified peer reviewers. Faculty who wish to become QM peer reviewers must complete a 1-day workshop as well as a 3-week online course, and then submit the peer reviewer certification application. Upon obtaining the peer reviewer certification, the faculty member is eligible for a stipend or professional development fund.

The second stage is to obtain QM certification on one or more of your online courses. Courses should meet the standards specified in this rubric. More information on this stage will become available later this year!

If you have any questions about the Quality Matters Initiative, please contact Dr. Rui Li at rli@wcupa.edu.

Introducing One-Button Studio

If you would like to record in the One-Button Studio, or just want a demonstration, contact your instructional designer or send an email to distanceed@wcupa.edu!

Coming Soon: D2L Daylight

On May 21st, 2018 the D2L Learning Management System will transition to a new look and feel called D2L Daylight.

All of the D2L tools that you currently use will remain and continue to work the way they do now. The changes include a mobile-friendly interface and a cleaner layout with course images. Faculty interested in trying the D2L interface can gain sneak peek access by attending a training event.

Distance Education faculty are encouraged to contact their instructional designer to discuss Daylight's impact on their course design as soon as possible!!
