Planning Your Session
Are you dreading planning your session? Are you dreading making sure you look fabulous?
Surprise! Your session is going to be fun!!
It’s easy to get overwhelmed with the planning of the outfits, choosing the perfect location and keeping everyone happy long enough to at least look happy in the photos. It’s a good thing for you that all of those are my specialties!
When it comes to capturing photographs, I take the Double F approach: fun and focused. Every session is guaranteed to be a super fun experience for you, but I’m always focused on getting the best, most beautiful images. I’m kind of a perfectionist in that way.
Here are a few tips as we begin to plan your session. Remember that I’m here with you through the whole thing so be sure to relax and let things flow! We will start planning together at our first meeting called a Pre Consultation, where I will be able to answer questions you may have, as well as ask you questions to start getting to know you and your family. This is where I will find out what portraits are most important to you and what products you are thinking about, as well as where you would like them to be in your home.
-When we’re deciding on a location think about places you LOVE and have the most fun. This could be your backyard, the beach, a favorite park, in your kitchen baking cookies or at the fair! Wherever it is we’ll make sure to capture your personality and having FUN!
-When choosing outfits refer to the “What to Wear” portion of this guide and remember it’s likely you can choose right from your own closets!
-Stressed about giving the perfect smile? Don’t worry, I’ve got it covered. The best thing you can do to help make this happen is to relax and let me handle it. I pride myself on taking the time to get to know you and your personality, and have fun. During this time I’ll grab the fun candids but also help you feel confident and relaxed for those perfect shots!
- Keep the bribery at home! Most likely we won't need it and if we do, I come prepared! I'll have a special something for each of your children for after the session...if they're not cooperating that usually does the trick!
What to Wear - The Do's and Don'ts!
Deciding what to wear for your session can seem like a huge chore. Following these simple tips will help you chose the perfect outfits for your upcoming session with ease! Don’t forget to check your closet first!
DO- Choose a color scheme based on where you’d like to hang these pictures. Ex. If you’re planning on a living room wall display and your living room is decorated in earth tones choose colors that will coordinate.
DON’T- Match. Leave the jeans and white t-shirts at home and instead choose a color scheme and coordinate.
DO- Layer. The more layers the better. Sweaters, scarves, jewlery, blazers layers create visual interest and add texture throughout your pictures. They’re a great addition.
DON’T- Be afraid of patterns. Plaids, polkadot, florals and stripes can be overwhelming when all paired together but mixing in a few patterns here and there are another great way to add some interest to you photo session.
DO- Pay attention to your shoes. Shoes matter! A pair of nike sneakers mixed in with cute boots and dress shoes can be an eye sore in your photos. Try to stick with neutral shoes for the whole family.
DON’T- Wear logos. As much as shoes can be an eye sore so can a big logo across a t-shirt. Try to stear clear of sports or brand logos or sayings across the front of your shirt. Again, this takes the attention away from the family and brings the eye right to the t-shirt.
DO- Stay comfortable! Especially for mom, pick something you love and build around that. Wear something you’re comfortable sitting, standing, running and playing in! You’ll thank me later!
DON’T- Over think it! You want your family to look like your family so don’t stress to much about the outfits. Be sure to have fun with it!

After The Session
You’ve already had a blast at your session but now things are about to get even better! Two weeks after your session we’ll have your Reveal night (We’ll schedule this at the same time we schedule your session to make sure you see your images as soon as possible!). On your Reveal night you’ll see all of your images for the first time. It’s definitely something to get excited about!
That night I’ll come to your home (that’s right no babysitter and you can even stay in your jammies if you want!) and show you a custom slideshow with your images and even some video that I’ve taken throughout your session.
After you’ve experienced the slideshow you’ll have some time to go through all of your images and take a look at all of the product samples. Seeing everything in person will really give you a sense of what products are most important to you. My favorites are canvases and image albums!
You’ll have plently of time to ask any questions, to hold up images to different walls in your own home to see what sizes will work best and enough time to pick out your favorites.
The collections on the following page have been put together to give you the absolute best quality product for the best value. Those collections are available on reveal night only. No need to worry if the products in the offered collections don’t fit you’re needs, all products are available a la carte as well and are 20% off on Reveal night, which you can see in the image below.
The goal of the reveal night is to finalize your order so we can get your prints and products to you as soon as possible. To help make this stress free it’s a great idea to take a look through all of the different products and colletions so you can go into it with an idea of what might work best for you. Once you’ve seen your images that may change but it’s always good to have an idea when we get started!
When all the fun of the reveal night is over, you’ll have a short wait before you’ll have those images in your hands! Digital files purchased will be made available within 24 hours and you can expect to have your prints and products in hand within 2-4 weeks. When everything is in we’ll schedule a time that I can hand deliver everything to make sure it gets there safely!
