And a big thank you from all of us at Fjord Singapore. We’ve enjoyed having you as a friend in our first year.

Because music means a lot to us, we’re proud to share some of our 2017 favorites. You might learn something new about your favorite Fjordian, too.

(p.s. Someone left a baby chatbot on our front step. Do you want it?)

Tokeijikakeno Wonderland — Vanilla Beans

After 9 years of music school, I don’t listen much to music, or have a tune stuck in my head. But I have listened to Vanilla Beans for years, and they released a new album this year. But let’s be honest, it's not really about their songs.

Dangerous — The xx

Spotify says this is my top song of the year, but I couldn't tell you why. I don't even remember listening to it a whole lot. But I guess it must be my favorite... the algorithms are never wrong.

Attention — Charlie Puth

Really digging the bass in this song - it's so catchy! On some days, I wish there were an option to mute Charlie Puth. Maybe I should learn how to play this on bass...

Thunder — Imagine Dragons

I immediately gravitated to Thunder when it came on. 1,425 plays later, I am still digging the strong beats! Especially good work music for banging out screen flows. :)

In Cold Blood — alt-J

I recently started listening to alt-J. What got my attention was the numbers they sing in the opening: 11001110 10010100 —which make up the UTF-8 code for the Delta symbol Δ in binary; Δ also being the name of the band as per their Twitter handle, and the "alt-J" keystroke being how you type Δ on a Mac.

Look What You Made Me Do — Taylor Swift

I don't like this song so much as I like Taylor Swift, my queen.

Green Light — Lorde

Great energy from the four on the floor beat and piano to the anthem chorus. Smart lyrics. There are so many great cuts on Melodrama, but this one works every time.

Castle on the Hill — Ed Sheeran

I dont like liking Ed Sheeran, but sometimes I do. Maybe it is the daily nostalgia-inducing experience of raising a son, but I am a sucker for ths sort of "life is short, don't miss it" kind of song.

Bodak Yellow — Cardi B

Honestly, every time it starts I think about "F*ck Up Some Commas" by Future, which I really like, and then I just go with it. But the real reason I like it is this parody of it:

Love — Kendrick Lamar

There's a lot to love in the DAMN. album, but this is the one I keep coming back to. Maybe it's how Zacari sounds like a guilt-free Bieber, or maybe it's this bit in the chorus: "If I didn't ride blade on curb / Would you still love me?"

Supercut — Lorde

Amazing album; hard to pick one. Supercut made me stop and check the track name. It's amazing to me that a visual concept invented and named just 9 years ago (by the internet's own Andy Baio & Ryan Gantz) can now be a post-YouTube young person's native reference for how memory works.

Ocean Eyes (2017) — Billie Eilish

Billie's one of the best new artists this year, no question. The new EP's version of her 2016 hit, Ocean Eyes, is just a little bit better than the original, which makes it oh... tremendous? Plus the fact that she's just 15 and already loaded with talent. To paraphrase Apple marketing, I can't wait to see what she does with it.

Havana (ft. Young Thug) — Camila Cabello

Who doesn't like a guy with good manners? This song is best listened to on a beach in front of a bonfire, with a bottle of rum and a little goat, dressed like a pirate. Naturally.

I Feel It Coming (ft. Daft Punk) — The Weeknd

I'm an old school R&B girl and I simply love Daft Punk (they could mix a wooden stick hitting a plastic cup and I would worship it). That said, this track has been under my skin and in my ears all year, it's just sooo sexy. You're welcome!

Spent the Day in Bed — Morrissey

I've always been a fan of The Smiths, and this doesn't give me any reason to change that.

Song 3 — Inner Wave

This song reminds me of The Strokes, who I love but didn't have a new album out this year. It's a good soundtrack for when I'm walking around exploring Singapore, where I've just moved to from Istanbul!
