Supporting a Fact-Fueled Discussion

Keeping an eye on reforms - and sharing it

DRI uses its legal expertise to provide updates and analysis of reforms through a range of medium. In addition to providing monitoring and expert assessments, these publications feed international standards and comparative practices into the reform discussion.

Infographics such as the ones below are a useful tool to clearly communicate complex legal reforms in an accessible manner.

Legislative Monitor

DRI also developed a monthly-updated Legislative Monitoring Chart, an interactive tool to help people stay up to date on reform developments in the Ukrainian Parliament.

“The Legislative Monitor allows citizens to follow the progress of legal initiatives without getting lost in the 'spam' of numerous draft laws” -Mykola Gnatovsky, DRI Senior Constitutional Analyst

Through this chart, DRI not only monitors the political reforms, but also provides brief analysis, giving short assessments of draft and adopted legislation.

"DRI's Monitor not only measures the quantity of progress law-making but also its quality” – Andriy Kulykov, the journalist of “Hromadske Radio”

Briefing Papers

In addition to shorter analyses and public updates, DRI also supplies highly detailed briefing papers that delve into various aspects of the reform process.

These resources all contribute to a broader and deeper understanding of the ongoing reforms and their role in shaping a democratic Ukraine for both the Ukrainian public and international community.

Lets have a discussion

With conferences, round-tables and public discussions on a range of reform-related issues, DRI brings together national and international experts, members of the Ukrainian Parliament, government officials, local authorities, civil society activists and youth.

“New and old politicians/policy makers still do not seriously consider the importance of civil society's voice [...] That is exactly were constant support is needed, and DRI provided this support” -Anatoliy Kytsevol, Director of the Reform Support Team at the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine at EBRD

For example, at the conference seen above, hosted in collaboration with both an international programme and local civil society network, the discussion centered on Ukraine's constitutional reform.

Coverage of such discussions by various media outlets means that the discussions contribute to the wider discourse on reforms, and reach beyond just those attending.

Conferences in Berlin and Brussels also keep the international community up-to-date on the reform process and generate ideas on how to best support Ukraine's democratic transition.
