- Description: The Helmeringhausen Hotel in the tiny hamlet of Helmeringhausen in the southern region of Namibia, is the ideal stopover between the Fish River Canyon and Sesriem or Sossusvlei. Today the area is still part of a farm, called Farm Helmeringhausen, with Karakul sheep, goats and cattle farming being prevalent. Nowadays the Hotel and Guestfarm are in the hands of Björn and Katja Basler, an excellent team. In 2011 Katja received a “Best Hotelier”-award, a testimony to the high standards set at the Helmeringhausen Hotel.

Close to the Hotel, approximately 5 minutes’ walk, you will find comfortable tables and chairs on a hill overlooking the veld – just begging for you to sit down and enjoy your sundowner. The museum right next to the Helmeringhausen Hotel shows many farming implements that were used by the settlers of the early farming days. The old German Police Station at Chamies is also worth visiting. If you feel like a game of tennis, collect the keys to the tennis court from the reception desk at the Hotel Helmeringhausen. Be sure to visit the curio shop before leaving – you are bound to find something unique and special to take back home.
