Geographical Features

The Andes run north and south through the country and form a mountainous spine with a number of peaks over 5,000 meters. Central valley ranges to 249 miles and 31 miles wide. Its two rims are connected by a series of high plateau.

There is a great volcano called "Cotopaxi". Highest mountain peak in the country and is snow covered! Quilotoa is a crater lake set high in the Andes. The lake formed when a volcano erupted over 800 years ago.

The Church of the Society of Jesus is among the best-known churches in Quito because of its large central nave, which is profusely decorated with gold leaf, gilded plaster and wood carvings. The Basilica of the National Voto is a Roman Catholic church located in the historic center of Quito, Ecuador. It is the largest neo-Gothic basilica in the Americas.
