Online Teaching Template A building block for designing high-quality online courses

So you are ready to:

  • create a new online course,
  • convert a face-to-face course to online, or
  • revise an existing online course

but wondering where to begin.

Stop spinning your wheels!

At the Marilyn Davies College of Business, we developed a template that will help you approach online course design and delivery effectively for the benefit of both students and yourself.

No matter what level of experience you have with teaching and designing online courses, you are encouraged to use the template as the foundation upon which to build your online courses.

How to obtain the template for a new/blank banner course section

  • Option 1: Contact IT Help Desk and request a sandbox where you can develop your new online course, using the approved template as its foundation. Once you develop the course in the sandbox, you will need to copy or export it to the course section that will be populated with students.
  • Option 2: Alternatively, you can contact IT Help Desk and request the template to be copied into the course section you will be teaching and build your course there. If you choose this option, be sure to clean up the course section’s default menu in Blackboard before asking IT to copy the template into the course.

How to move your existing course into the template

If you have an existing online course and would like to embed it inside the template, you will need to ask IT Help Desk to copy the template into your existing course first. Once IT copies the template inside your existing course, the contents of the template will be placed at the bottom of the course navigation menu. You will need to organize your existing course content into the appropriate places within the template.
