Savages Fiber reactive dye on silk

A simple study. Using watercolor techniques to create an abstract plant study. The abstract and loose style draw from a number of childhood influences.

Growing up surrounded by Science Fiction and Fanasty novels gave my imagination a large jungle to wander. The cover art was exciting, dynamic, and colorful. I was drawn to the escape and adventure in the pages, and captivated by the fantasty art of Frank Frazetta.

I didn't learn about the the legendary artist until well after falling into a show on MTV's Oddities in the late 90's, "The Maxx."

Sam Kieth's unique art blurred the lines of traditional comic art. The color palate and painterly style greatly influenced both the way I both use and break with tradition.
