The story is adapted from a series of poems written by writer/director Mary Marxen and inspired both by painful experiences in her own life and the French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan’s concept of the Mirror Stage. Mary feels compelled to share Mirrors because she has done the work to now live the film’s message: Confronting your fears is the doorway to leading your fullest life.
BEHIND THE SCENES
DIRECTOR/CO-WRITER - MARY MARXEN
After a spiritual experience at a Hindu Ashram five years ago, Mary put her painting and drawing career on hold and followed her passion for acting. After graduating from an acting program in Berkeley, she received acceptance into the William Esper Studio in New York City. Now based in the Bay Area, Mary has performed in numerous stage productions and independent films around the Bay Area and New York. Mary's writing was featured and performed at such venues as StageWerx in San Francisco for August 2017 Action Fiction! performance series, Waterfront Playhouse and Conservatory in Berkeley, California, and The Alchemical Theater Lab in New York. She co-produced the web series, The Queens Luxury Oasis. In 2016, she co-created a woman's writing group, The Seven Sisters, which supports women in pursuit of writing and producing their own material. All the artwork shown in this EPK was created by Mary.
PRODUCER – WARD SORRICK
A Project Manager at his core, a Producer by trade, and a Creative through hard work and practice, Ward gets excited about working with curious, creative, disciplined professionals on projects designed to add value to the end user by delivering unique, best-in-class results. This year he co-founded his first company, Park Meadow Films, with Genesis Diaz. After studying at UCLA film school, where her natural leadership and love of film came together with technical skills and professional coaching, Genesis began her journey as a Filmmaker and Creative in this dynamic industry. Recently, she partnered with Ward Sorrick to co-found a new digital media production company called Park Meadow Films where she serves as Creative Director. In all of her work, there is a commitment to a dream-like aesthetic and a social awareness that connects the conscious with the subconscious and the inner emotional world with the outer human experience.
