Hudson High School School Counselor Newsletter Winter Edition 2020

Registration for 2020-21 School Year

Counselors will meet with students the week of February 3 - 7 to present registration information. Students will receive course books and registration forms. Registration presentations will be posted on the high school website for all to view as needed.

During the week of February 10 - 14, counselors will work with students to register courses online and turn in registration forms.

Second Semester Schedule Changes

The start of second semester is January 27th. Students may request to add an elective in place of a study hall or drop a course for a study hall the first days of the semester. After the 2nd day, students are only able to drop a class for a study hall. Any course drops after March 6th will receive an F on the transcript. Please contact your student's counselor with schedule concerns. Students need to obtain 2.5 credits a semester to be a fulltime student.

Western Wisconsin College Fair

Monday, January 27th from 6-8 PM at River Falls High School. This college fair has grown to one of the largest and most respected college fairs in western Wisconsin and all students are welcome to attend! It is completely free to attend and around 75-90 colleges/universities/military will be present.

Xello

Xello is a new web-based program that all students have access to at Hudson High School. Students log in through ClassLink and click on Xello. Xello offers students opportunities to take interest surveys, investigate careers, and search colleges. This program is used to support our district Academic and Career Plan (ACP).

Class of 2020 Seniors

Mid-Year Reports for College Applications

Some colleges require a mid-year report from the high school. This would include a mid-year form and an updated transcript with Semester 1 grades. Students should request their transcripts to be sent through Xello.

Students who applied using the Common App will need to notify Ms. Smith or Ms. Siler if they need a mid-year report and transcript sent to their college.

Scholarships

Still looking for money to pay for college...continue the search through national database websites, Hudson High School Counseling website, and the local scholarships (more information coming in February).

Class of 2021 Juniors

ACT Information

All Juniors will take the ACT on March 3, 2020. This is a state test and students do not need to register. The test will be given at the high school and can be submitted for college admissions. Please contact Jessica Siler at 715-377-3800 x6013 with any questions regarding the state test.

Start College Now/Early College Credit Program

Students who are interested in taking college courses at a Wisconsin college may be eligible for Start College Now or Early College Credit Program. Applications for Fall Semester 2020 are due to Ms. Rossini by March 1st for Hudson School District Board approval. Applications can be picked up in the Student Services Office. Please contact your school counselor or Ms. Rossini if you have questions about Early College Credit or Start College Now Programs.

ACT Resources

A list of free and fee based courses and practice tests have been compiled for your convenience. Please use as needed and new dates/courses come up throughout the year. We will update as we find out more!

  • ACT Prep Course through WITC where students can take 1 or 4 sessions reviewing all subjects during Feb 3 - 6. Registration information is included on the ACT resource link.
  • ACT Math Prep with Mr. Kaufman on Saturdays Feb 1 - 29 is available right before the State ACT. Registration information link is included on the ACT resource link.

College Searches and Visits

Students should take the opportunity during breaks or when traveling to visits colleges of interest. Many schools have campus tours led by current students and will answer questions about the school. Contact the college you are interested in to set up a tour! Students are allowed two excused days for touring schools.

Class of 2022 Sophomores

Sophomore Information Meeting

Ms. Jamieson and Ms. Siler will be hosting another Sophomore Information Meeting on February 13 from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm. This is an ideal time to participate in your Sophomore Informational Meeting since your student will be finishing their registration for the following school year. Please plan to bring your student and a device to review transcript and test scores.

2020 - 21 Registration information for HealthCare and STEM+ Academy

Parent Informational Meeting Thursday January 30 from 6 - 6:30 pm in the Fishbowl at the high school. This meeting will provide information about the application process and how students can access the online application. If you are unable to attend this meeting, please watch this informational video and email the Academy Lead, Lisa Faletti-Watkins (watkinlc@hudsonraiders.org), with any questions you may have.

Applications to join either the HealthCare or STEM+ Academies is fast approaching. The online applications will be available to students starting February 3 and will end on February 19.
