Happy New School Year!

I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.

Junior School News

Welcome to 2017!!!!!!!!! It’s great to see how much our students have grown over the holidays and how excited they are to start a new school year. Welcome to all our new families, we are so glad that you have joined us and look forward to having you as part of our school community.

Our new Teachers; Miss Adéle (Prep), Mrs Sedgman (Year 1), Mrs Mowbray (Year 2) and Mr Hurst (Year 4) have settled into school routine and are loved by their students.

Parking

Parking over the first few days of school is the busiest time of the year. We thank you for your patience and understanding at this time. As you may be aware the school driveway can easily become a traffic jam in the mornings and afternoons. Our focus needs to be children and their safety and we request that you note and adhere to the following:

  1. Arrive out of peak times which are 8.00am- 8.20am & 3.05pm – 3.20pm.
  2. Use parking spaces at the front of the school.
  3. Use the pickup/drop off line.
  4. Advise your teacher if you would like your child in pickup line in the afternoon.
  5. Please note: Prep has an early pickup line option at 2.30pm. K-Year 4 finish school at 2.50pm & have a 15 min window from 2.55pm- 3.10pm to use pick up line. If you arrive too early you will be stuck in the Prep traffic.
  6. Children MUST remain with their parents within the car park area. (no matter the child’s age).
  7. Children may ONLY be dropped off & picked up at the concrete path. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES are children or adults to use the gate leading into the oval.
  8. Please do not stop and let your children out of the car at the boom gate as this causes a traffic jam at the emergency exit

Children are NOT to be placed over the fence at any time. Please DO NOT leave your car in the pickup area as this becomes congested and frustrating for other drivers.

Canteen

Welcome to Kelly Oldfield and Lisa Marton who are running our canteen this year!!!!

Lunch orders have started with a BANG!! Just a reminder that canteen lunch orders are available Tuesday – Friday each week. Orders are made through your flexischools account at www.flexischools.com.au

Middle School News

Start of School Year

A huge thank you to all our Middle School families for your support and patience with the delay of the new building. Our new students all seem to be settling in well and teachers are reporting a positive atmosphere in both classrooms and playground in spite of the extreme heat. It is lovely to see the students taking the wearing of their uniform seriously and all have responded responsibly by wearing their hats with pride to and from school.

Inaugural High School Swimming Carnival

Our inaugural High School Swimming Carnival held at the Hornsby Aquatic Centre on Thursday 2nd February was a huge success with high participation rates and an excellent day all round. Students going on to the next level will be notified once this information is available.

On the 2nd of February Year 7 & 8 dressed in yellow for Phillip and red for Hunter to support their houses in the first High School Swimming Carnival. The day started as the students poured into Hornsby Aquatic Centre then we got into our friendship groups and got ready for our first race which was the 200 metre individual medley. The races kept coming thick and fast and the weather was unusually cold and the breeze was icy but everyone tried really hard. The student teacher relay was the last race of the day and was very exciting because the Hunter girls team beat the teachers by a millisecond! It was a great day and lots of fun and I can't wait to hear which house won! Will Phillip win again or will Hunter finally rise?

Learn to play a piano piece from your very first lesson!

If you or your child have had little or no musical experience, this remarkable approach would be suitable. It has people of all ages playing great-sounding pop, classical, gospel, blues and accompaniment pieces, immediately from their very first lessons!

Simply Music is a “playing-based” method of learning to play piano. It starts out by distilling entire pieces into simple shapes, patterns, and concepts that you can clearly see and easily play on the keyboard. Without having their focus split between music reading and hand placement on the keys, students are free to relate directly to the piano.

This method has proved to be exceptionally successful with not only adults but also kids. It allows maximum learning for those with short attention spans.
