Saints of Shawnee Alliance,

From the bottom of my heart I want to thank you for your generous contributions toward the Alliance relief projects in Lebanon. As of writing this we have taken in $3,417.00. It is a blessing to serve such a generous church. It would have been easy to forget about our neighbors and simply concern ourselves with the affairs in our community, but as God's church we will continue to look beyond our geography and be a blessing to those we'll never meet. I believe lives are being transformed because of your faithfulness.

At Shawnee Alliance we do not believe in "either/or" ministry. While we continue to make a difference in Beirut Lebanon we are also preparing to increase our impact at home. I would like to invite you to join us on Wednesday, September 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the East Campus sanctuary as we explore how to effectively share our faith. This is always a blessed time to be able to focus on reaching our neighbors. Wednesday Activity Night will start in full the following Wednesday, September 9.

Ministry Spotlight: GriefShare

GriefShare is a 13 week program written by counselors, writers and speakers on the topic of GRIEF. Twelve years ago, Shawnee Alliance Church started an outreach in this community that has ministered to over 400 people who have experienced really intense grief.

Who comes? Those who struggle with intense grief from the loss of a loved one. Some come immediately after the loss and others wait years. There is no time limit on grief.

Who leads it? It is led by people who understand what intense grief feels like and have worked through the journey of grief and are now ready to help others.

Everything said in these groups is confidential!

Some of the topics we cover are: What is normal, Guilt, Anger, Stuck in Grief, Heaven, How to Survive the Holidays & Who Am I Now?

The two things attendees of these sessions say about this 13 week program are---“I thought I was losing my mind, but I learned----I am just grieving normally!” and “It is so nice to be in a group of people who understand my feeling of loss!”

Grief Share sessions starting in September will meet in the following forms:

Wednesday Night Sessions (begin September 9) will be on Zoom from 6:30pm to 8pm. We will watch the video on the Zoom call. This is very simple if you have never done it. When you register, we will mail you a book and give you the Zoom code and password.

Thursday Morning Sessions (begin September 10) will be face to face (social distancing) in the usual room from 10 am to 11:30am. We can have 12 people in the room. Everything will be sanitized.

Since this is a different world we are living in, we MUST ask that you register in advance for these sessions by contacting Mary Ann - call/text 419-230-7963 or email: mreichmanis@gmail.com.

Registration must be completed by September 1!

We are profoundly thankful for the 25 years to have served the Lord Jesus Christ through His church, Shawnee Alliance. Over the past seven months, you, the body of Christ, have overwhelmed us with cards, letters, text messages, Facebook posts, gift certificates and many gifts. The open house on Sunday, August 16, was beyond what we could have ever imagined! There are no words to express our deep thankfulness and gratitude for what you have given us and how you have honored and blessed us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything. It has been our privilege to be transformed alongside you.

The Apostle Paul expresses what we feel and believe about you from his letter the Philippians “I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.”

Ministry Spotlight: StoryTellers

StoryTellers is a rebirth of generations of programs that have existed through Shawnee Alliance’s history. While it has assumed many names, the primary goal has stayed constant: to worship Papa God in a way that is not common in our Sunday services. While Storytellers is currently comprised of 5th-12th graders, it is open to anyone with a desire to worship in a more creative way! We participate in the Christmas program every year as well as various 'special' pieces in congregational worship. Beginning Fall 2020, we will also work in conjunction with the K-4 Kids weekly services leading worship time and helping with story time. As a team, we desire to learn the many ways that we can worship in our daily life – using the creativity that Papa God has already blessed us with to bless the congregation as a whole. This ministry is largely student driven, and provides numerous ways for the youth to develop and use their leadership capabilities as well as their energy and creativity.

StoryTellers is always welcoming new members (5th grade and up) and meets on Sundays in the Youth Room (office entrance) from 12:15-2:30 PM for K-4 Kids planning and 2:30-4:00 PM for the special worship planning. If the Holy Spirit is tugging at you {or your students} heartstrings to enter into a new level of creativity in worship – StoryTellers may be the community that You are called to join! Feel free to show up to a rehearsal or contact Rebekah at 419-302-2074.

The Presidential Prayer Team

A prayer tip for our nation: Would you like a free source to be informed about our president, cabinet, featured leaders for prayer and national news on a daily basis for the sole purpose of prayer?

Check out their website below!

This is a national non-denominational ministry, active since 2001, that exists to provide a consistent urging toward prayer for our president and leadership of the U.S.A. The team believes that prayer is an effective tool that can transform our nation and is a gift given to us by God. "I have been a member for almost 10 years and find it one of the best prayer tools out there for covering our nation." - Denise Darbyshire

Bible Reading Plan

The number one habit to bring transformation to your life is reading your Bible. You will get to know Jesus on a deeper level and learn wisdom for your everyday choices. You can find a free Bible in the Lobby. Take one today or download the YouVersion app on your phone. Use this simple SOAP format to guide your interaction with God's Word.

  • Scripture. Take your time reading each chapter and allow God to speak to you.
  • Observation. What do you see God doing in the Scripture? What is God saying to you?
  • Application. Ask yourself how you can apply this to your life right now.
  • Prayer. Communicate with God and ask Him to help you apply this to your life.

Try it out this week! Add a chapter from Proverbs every day to the below plan. (List is also posted every Sunday on social media.)

Thursday, August 27 -- Exodus 31

Friday, August 28 -- Leviticus 23

Saturday, August 29 -- Leviticus 24
