Let’s learn about why they are dying off. First, there is not enough food for Snow Leopards prey. Overgrazing has damaged the fragile mountains. Grasslands are leaving less food for wild sheep and goats that are Snow Leopards main prey. Next, the leopards are losing their habitat because of climate change. Their habitat range is between where the tree lines stop and where the snow lines begin on the mountains. As climate change causes the temperatures to raise, snow lines are receding, which means that Snow leopards must move further up the mountain slopes as well. When Snow leopards get to higher elevations, the vegetation becomes more scarce, which means herbivores that Snow leopards prey on are limited on supply as well, and the Snow Leopards are having trouble finding enough food!
